Italy >> Toscana >> Lucignano - La Dimora del Pellegrino, a delightful apartment in a medieval village in Tuscany - Lucignano
The spectacular position of Lucignano, 414 metres above sea level, overlooking the Valdichiana and on the main route between Siena and Arezzo, has given it strategic importance since its origins.
The name Lucignano probably originates from a Roman castrum, while its present day layout date back to the thirteenth century; in 1300, under the rule of Siena , the fortifications were completed with the city walls and the three city gates (S.Giusto gate, S.Giovanni gate and the so called Murata gate; above all was built the fortress with its two towers).
Today, Lucignano still maintains intact its fascinating atmosphere of an ancient village, through an interesting spatial and functional articulation, between the "rich street", now G.Matteotti Street, bright and ample, where the residential buildings built by nobility rise and the "poor street", now Roma Street, characterised by poor and small buildings.Naturally, inside the ancient walls there is the possibility to find restaurants, typical shops and supermarkets .
During the last two Sundays of May, there is the so called "Maggiolata", a traditional parade of floats decorated with flowers, prepared by the town quarters.
The Dimora, located in the main street of Lucignano, has been completed renovated and furnished with antique furniture (fine nineteenth century pieces all well preserved), suited for refined guests.
Rent Price: 500 Euro - 600 Euro Per Week
