La Huerta del Angel is a unique, traditional finca set in stunning grounds, established in  moorish times. In the 1800s the house became the property of the powerful and famous Galvez family.

This property of nearly three hectares is located in between 2 municipalities of Macharaviaya and Vélez-Málaga and has three entrances.

There is easy access which is paved all the way to the entrance and is only 500 m away from the village of Macharaviaya.
There is a creek called Arroyo de Iberos which borders the property on one side.

The farm is located only 12 minutes drive from the coast (7 Kms), 25 min from the city of Málaga (27 Kms) and 35 min from airport (37 Kms).

During the middle ages this property was the main part of an Arab mill known as Machar de Ibn Abu Yahya which later gave the name to the actual village of Macharaviaya. Vestiges of that time are found in the old arch that frames the charming walkway to the house and the brick well besides the river.

 The first title deed goes back to D. Antonio de Gálvez y Carvajal, father of D. Matías de Gálvez (1717-1784), viceroy of Nueva España and Spanish ambassador in the court of Catherine the great. At his time the property name was “Quinta de don Matías” and was very big . From him it went to his son, Bernardo de Gálvez (1746-1786), the count of Gálvez and marques of Sonora who also passed on to his only son Miguel Gálvez y Saint Maxent (1782-1825), 2nd Count of Gálvez.

 It was this last member of that Galvez family who changed the name of the property to “Huerta del angel” by which it is still known today. Miguel died a bachelor and without children. His executor sold it some years later in 1859 to Francisco Aranda Fernández for the amount of 30.500 reales…

 The Gálvez family was of great economical and political power. They opened the commercial trades to America, founded cities in Florida and established the well known Archives of India in Seville. They decided to be generous with their home town, the hamlet of Macharaviaya,  creating a card factory, a country bank and the monumental church dedicated to S. Jacinto with extensive donations for paintings and sacred art that was lost during the Spanish civil war.

The whole Finca is classified as “regadio”, which means the land  has access to water and is plantable, though in the actual moment only 1 hectare is in use with an avocado plantation, and a variety of fruit trees and a designed garden in the area surrounding the house. Two wells provide abundant water all year; the one beside the river was built by the arabs and was part of the historical mill of Ibn Yahya.

Part of the land is terraced by a XVIII century stone and brick wall.

There is a stone threshing floor (era)  for grain and an old fashioned water reservoir (alberca) which are not in use but could be renovated for use as a large swimming pool.

The land is suitable for developing equestrian facilities.
