Description for this listing

The detached house - which has been restored retaining many original features such as hand painted tiles to the kitchen and wooden beams to the living room - has good views over the surrounding countryside but is close to amenities. It has stone window and door surrounds and the stone walls have been exposed and pointed to the exterior and internally. The house has a wooden roof, which has been repaired and insulated.

The main entrance has a double wooden door with wrought iron furniture. This leads directly into a spacious, double aspect living room with a tiled floor, wooden beamed ceiling and a fireplace with stone hearth. There is a staircase to one corner which leads to the first floor accommodation. The kitchen is accessed off the living room and also has a tiled floor and a large, traditional style fireplace to one corner. There are hand painted tiled to the lower half of some the walls and wooden base units with wrought iron door furniture. The work surfaces are marble.

The staircase leads into a double aspect entrance vestibule on the first floor which has parquet wood flooring. There is an external access door of the vestibule, which leads out to a covered portico with stone steps leading down to the garden and hand carved stone pillars.

There is a second living room which is also double aspect with a double height pitched roof with exposed wooden beams. There is a second wooden staircase to the corner of this living room, which leads up to a spacious mezzanine study area/third bedroom. Off the living room there are two bedrooms, both with wooden floors. The bathroom has traditional style hand painted tiles to some areas.

The property is situated on a plot measuring around 4,000 m2. The garden immediately surrounding the house has stone paved patio areas, a feature stone water trough and mature cacti.

The property is located in the country, but is close to the market town of Alvaiázere which has several supermarkets as well as cafes, restaurant, bars, shops, pharmacies, schools, swimming pool, library and weekly market. The larger town of Tomar is around 25 minutes drive and the closest airport is Lisbon, which is approximately one and three quarter hours' drive by car.
