Podere Giardino is a small farm situated on the southern side of Montalcino's municipality, less than 1 Km far from the provincial road leading towards Grosseto.

Thus, it is immersed in characteristic Tuscan countryside of vineyards, olive groves and Mediterranean bush. It is located in a spot overlooking the Orcia and Ombrone river valleys and offers a splendid view of the castles of Argiano and Poggio alle Mura, as well as fabulous sunsets on Maremma.

Podere Giardino is known at least from the end of eighteenth century: some old documents of the local parish church revealed that the peasants living in Giardino payed the tribute usually due to the Catholic Church in the past.

The building has been recently renovated, inside three apartments have been created, to sleep a total of 10. The apartments have early 20th-century "arte povera" furnishings. The renovation has respected the typical characteristics of the old Sienese farm ("podere"), giving relief to the local limestone and the hand-made bricks.

Podere Giardino's lands are situated 350 m above the sea level, with south-west exposure, and are really vocated for viticulture and olive-growing. Also the Etruscans and the Romans found in this region the right place to stay and develope their activities: in fact, there are many signs of their presence in the past in Montalcino and surrounding territories. Viticulture is practised in Montalcino from ages and ages; about thirty years ago, after half a century of poverty (Montalcino has never been industrialized), agriculture finally became a profitable activity. This changing is due to Brunello di Montalcino, one of the finest and most known italian wines in the world. Recently Podere Giardino planted a small vineyard (5000 sq. m) to produce nearly 3000 bottles of Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino.

To complete the agricultural production, Pod. Giardino has about 100 olive trees (varieties: Frantoio and Leccino), producing on the average 2000 kg of olives for about 300 kg of olive oil.
Dragoni's family grows and cares the Giardino's crops but also receives turists and cares guests of the apartments.
